Start Your Documents Now, Not on Result Day

This is the single most useful thing you can do this week. Document verification moves quickly once the result is out, and missing paperwork is the most common avoidable reason candidates lose a seat.

Assemble and keep both originals and self-attested photocopies of:

• NORCET 11 admit card and the Mains scorecard once published
• Class 10 certificate and marksheet, for date of birth proof
• Class 12 certificate and marksheet
• B.Sc Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc Nursing or GNM certificate and all year or semester marksheets
• Degree or provisional certificate from your university
• Nursing council registration certificate, valid and current
• Category certificate in the prescribed central government format, for OBC, SC, ST or EWS
• OBC non-creamy layer certificate, issued within the validity period AIIMS specifies
• PwBD certificate where applicable
• Experience certificates, where the post or your eligibility route requires them
• Photo identity proof, Aadhaar, PAN, passport or driving licence
• Recent passport size photographs, matching the ones used in your application
• No Objection Certificate, if you are currently employed in a government organisation

Two details that catch people out every cycle:

1. Category certificate format. A state format certificate is not always accepted where the central government format is required. Check the wording on yours now, because reissuing takes time.
2. Name consistency. If your name appears differently across your Class 10 certificate, your degree and your Aadhaar, sort out the affidavit or correction before verification, not during it.

Reading the Merit List Correctly

When the result appears, you will fall into one of three groups:

Provisionally selected. You have met the qualifying percentage and your rank is within the vacancy count for your category. Provisional means subject to document verification and medical fitness, so nothing is final until both are cleared.

Waitlisted. You qualified, but your rank sits beyond the initial vacancy count. Waitlists move as selected candidates withdraw, take other offers or fail verification. Do not disengage, and keep your documents ready.

Not qualified. You did not meet the minimum percentage for your category, or your rank falls outside the list. NORCET 12 and 13 dates are already announced, which means you can start a planned cycle rather than a rushed one.

Institute Allotment and Preferences

Selection and posting are two different things. Your rank determines your position in the queue, and your stated preferences determine which of the participating institutes you are considered for as that queue is worked through.

Think about this before allotment, not after:

• Which institutes you would genuinely accept, and which you would not
• Location, and whether you can realistically relocate
• The difference between an AIIMS posting and other participating institutes in terms of workload and progression

A preference order filled in haste is difficult to undo.

1. Attend document verification on the scheduled date with originals and copies
2. Complete the medical fitness examination
3. Receive your offer of appointment
4. Complete joining formalities within the stated window
5. If currently employed, serve notice and obtain relieving documents in good time

If You Are Not Selected This Time

Take a few days before deciding anything. Then look at your scorecard honestly against your category cutoff. Candidates who miss by a small margin are usually closer than they feel, and the gap is exactly the kind that closes with one properly planned cycle rather than a frantic one.
