B.Sc Nursing course guide: years, subjects and next steps
B.Sc Nursing is a four-year undergraduate degree regulated by the Indian Nursing Council (INC). This guide covers how the course is structured, what each year teaches, and how to use your college years to prepare for government nursing exams.
How the B.Sc Nursing course is structured
Under the INC revised curriculum of 2021, the course runs over eight semesters. Semesters 1 to 7 combine theory with clinical postings, and semester 8 is a full internship. After passing, graduates register with their State Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife.

B.Sc Nursing eligibility
Admission needs 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, with at least 45% in PCB (40% for SC/ST candidates), and a minimum age of 17. Most states and central institutes admit through an entrance exam.
How to prepare year by year
1st and 2nd year: build the base
Anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and medical-surgical nursing carry the most weight in NORCET. Learn them well the first time and keep short notes you can revise later.
3rd year: the specialties
Child health, mental health, community health and midwifery are tested heavily in both university and government exams. Practise image-based and case-based questions.
4th year and internship: switch to exam mode
Most students sit NORCET during or right after internship. Move to timed previous-year papers and full-length mocks, and revise all four years.
Government jobs after B.Sc Nursing
B.Sc Nursing graduates with registration can apply for AIIMS NORCET, RRB Nursing Superintendent, ESIC, DSSSB and state staff nurse and CHO recruitments. You can also go on to an M.Sc Nursing after gaining clinical experience.
