NORCET 11 Mains Expected Cut Off 2026: Category Wise Marks Based on Previous Trends

The NORCET 11 Mains was held on 30 September 2026, and the question that follows every Mains paper is the same: what will the cutoff be.

First, the Part That Is Not a Prediction

AIIMS applies minimum qualifying percentages at the Mains stage. These are rules, not estimates:

Understand what this table is and is not. Clearing these percentages makes you eligible to be considered. It does not mean you are selected. The real cutoff, the one that decides appointments, is set by your merit rank against the number of vacancies in your category.

This is the single most misunderstood thing about NORCET Mains, and it is why aspirants who clear 50% sometimes still miss selection.

What Previous Cycles Tell Us

NPrep has tracked cutoffs across earlier NORCET cycles. The Prelims cutoff has climbed steadily as the applicant pool has grown:

NORCET 11 continued that climb. The Prelims cutoff this cycle was 95.1589222 percentile for UR, with OBC at 86.9062735, SC at 84.1940796, EWS at 82.2407840 and ST at 79.7051704.

The direction of travel matters more than any single number: the bar rises nearly every cycle, because the number of candidates grows faster than the number of posts.

Why Mains Cutoffs Behave Differently From Prelims

Four things make the Mains cutoff harder to predict than the Prelims one:

1. The paper is all nursing. There is no GK section to inflate or depress scores, so marks cluster more tightly around the middle. A tight cluster means small mark differences produce large rank differences.
2. It is case-based. 160 questions in 180 minutes, testing clinical judgment and prioritisation rather than recall. Difficulty swings more between cycles than a recall-based paper would.
3. Negative marking bites harder. At 1/3 per wrong answer, aggressive guessing on a hard paper drags the whole distribution down, which lowers the effective cutoff.
4. Vacancy count drives the final line. More posts at participating institutes means a lower selection rank threshold, and fewer posts means a higher one, regardless of how the paper felt.

So a harder paper usually means a lower cutoff, and a larger vacancy count usually means a more forgiving selection rank. The two can pull in opposite directions in the same cycle.

How to Read Your Own Marks Sensibly

Until the official result is out, the most useful thing you can do is place yourself in one of three bands:

• Comfortably above your category percentage: you are through the qualifying bar. Your focus now shifts to rank and document preparation.
• Close to the line, within a few marks either way: the memory-based key that circulates after the exam will not settle this. Wait for the official scorecard.
• Clearly below: start planning the next cycle now rather than in December. NORCET 12 dates are already out.

One caution on memory-based answer keys: they are compiled from what candidates recall after leaving the hall, and they contain errors every single cycle. Use them for a rough sense of your score, never as a final verdict.
