NORCET Choice Filling: How AIIMS Allots Seats | NPrep
How NORCET choice filling and AIIMS seat allotment work, with official rules and the NORCET 10 closing ranks for each institute.

NORCET choice filling is the one online step where qualified candidates list the institutes they will join, in order of preference. AIIMS then allots one seat per candidate, in order of Stage II rank, category and vacancies. There is one round, no waiting list, and choices cannot be changed once submitted.
Updated 1 November 2026. Rules are from AIIMS Notice 103/2026 (clause 32), Notice 167/2026, the NORCET-11 allocation brochure and FAQ dated 30 October 2026. Closing ranks are NPrep's count from the NORCET 10 seat allocation result (Result Notification 190/2026).

How does NORCET seat allotment work?
The NORCET-11 allocation brochure splits the process into three online stages:
- Application with choices. You select every institute you want to be considered for and put them in order of preference. This is done once only.
- Offer of post. AIIMS offers one institute, based on your eligibility, NORCET rank, reservation (if any) and the vacancies against your choices.
- Acceptance and reporting. You accept the offer online within the given dates, upload your documents, and then report to the institute when its nodal officer tells you to.
Allotment runs down the merit list. The candidate at rank 1 is placed in their highest available choice, then rank 2, and so on. Your rank decides how far down your list AIIMS has to go; your order decides which institute you get when more than one has a seat for you.
What happens if I leave an institute out?
You will not be considered for it. The NORCET-11 FAQ says no candidate will be allotted an institute where they have not filled a choice, and Notice 103/2026 adds that a candidate who fills only a few choices "will not be considered" for the rest at any stage.
There is no penalty for filling more choices. Leaving out an institute you would have joined is the costly mistake.
Which institutes filled up first in NORCET 10?
This is NPrep's count from the NORCET 10 seat allocation result. "Last UR rank" is the overall rank of the last UR-category candidate allotted to that institute. A lower number means the institute's UR seats went early in the merit list.
| Institute | Seats allotted | Last UR rank |
|---|---|---|
| CAPFIMS, Maidan Garhi | 22 | 45 |
| AIIMS Madurai | 27 | 71 |
| AIIMS Bhopal | 34 | 87 |
| AIIMS Vijaypur, Jammu | 34 | 123 |
| AIIMS Rishikesh | 59 | 333 |
| AIIMS Nagpur | 59 | 346 |
| AIIMS New Delhi | 264 | 599 |
| AIIMS Bathinda | 44 | 651 |
| AIIMS Raipur | 42 | 673 |
| LHMC and SSKH | 72 | 717 |
| Safdarjung Hospital | 137 | 744 |
| ESIC, New Delhi | 216 | 996 |
| AIIMS Bhubaneswar | 53 | 1,213 |
| AIIMS Rae Bareli | 64 | 1,222 |
| AIIMS Kalyani | 189 | 1,272 |
| AIIMS Guwahati | 54 | 1,425 |
| JIPMER Karaikal | 368 | 1,427 |
| AIIMS Gorakhpur | 181 | 1,644 |
| AIIMS Deoghar | 74 | 1,700 |
| AIIMS Patna | 159 | 1,898 |
| AIIMS Mangalagiri | 173 | 1,939 |
Two patterns stand out. Institutes with few seats close early even when they are not the most famous: AIIMS New Delhi's UR seats ran to rank 599, but CAPFIMS's ran out at 45. And seat counts swing between cycles: ESIC New Delhi had 802 seats in NORCET 9 and 216 in NORCET 10. Use the seat position for your own cycle, not last year's.
Reserved-category and PwBD seats go much deeper into the list. In NORCET 10, candidates ranked below 13,000 still received seats at several institutes.
How should I order my NORCET choices?
- List only places you will join. Notice 103/2026 says failing to join an allotted seat "for any reason(s)" cancels your candidature for that NORCET.
- Put your real first choice first. Your rank, not your order, decides how far down the list you can reach. Ranking a dream institute lower does not make a safer institute more likely.
- Then add every other institute you would accept. More choices cannot hurt your rank.
- Check eligibility institute by institute. The FAQ allows all AIIMS and the other hospitals only "if [you] fulfil the eligibility criteria" for each.
- Male candidates: at participating AIIMS, 80% of seats are reserved for women and 20% for men under Notice 103/2026. Include eligible non-AIIMS hospitals. See NORCET for male candidates.
- Lock only when sure. Submitted choices cannot be changed later.
What if my category certificate is not valid?
Category cannot be changed at the choice-filling stage. The allocation brochure says a reserved-category candidate who finds they are not eligible for that category must report it through the Raise Query section of MyPage before choice filling closes. A seat allotted on an invalid certificate is cancelled at document verification.
For NORCET 11, the OBC-NCL certificate must be for financial year 2026-27, issued between 1 April and 13 August 2026, in the Central Government format.
Which documents are needed after allotment?
The NORCET-11 brochure lists these for upload and for verification in original at reporting:
- NORCET Stage II result showing your marks
- Registration slip with your signature
- Admit cards for both Stage I and Stage II, signed
- Proof of date of birth or Class 10 certificate
- Caste or Income and Asset certificate, if applicable
- Disability certificate showing extent of disability, if PwBD
- NOC, if you work in a Central, State, PSB or PSU body
- Proof of essential qualification with the date of result
- Grade "A" Nurse or Midwife registration from a State or Indian Nursing Council
- Experience certificate for GNM holders, with the hospital's bed count and duration
- Government photo ID
- Any other certificate the allotted institute asks for
What happens after the offer?
You must accept the offered institute online within the dates AIIMS gives. Not accepting in time counts as refusal and cancels your candidature. Once you accept, you are not considered for any other institute.
In NORCET 10 the steps ran: choice filling 25 May to 2 June 2026, seat allocation result on 14 June (Result Notification 190/2026), and online acceptance with document upload from 15 to 24 June. The institute then sets the reporting date for document verification and the medical examination.
If you are not allotted a seat, there is no waiting list. The next attempt is the next NORCET.
FAQs
How many rounds of NORCET seat allotment are there?
One. The NORCET-11 FAQ says no second round will be conducted, because NORCET is now held twice a year, and Notice 103/2026 says there is no waiting list.
Can I change my NORCET choices after submitting?
No. The NORCET-11 FAQ says choices and their order cannot be changed after submission and lock, and no correspondence about it will be entertained.
How many institutes can I choose in NORCET?
As many as you are eligible for. The NORCET-11 FAQ says a candidate can apply to all AIIMS and the other participating hospitals if they meet each one's eligibility criteria. Only one institute is allotted.
What happens if I do not join the allotted institute?
Your candidature for that NORCET is cancelled. Notice 103/2026 makes joining mandatory and advises filling only the institutes where you will join.
Which AIIMS is best for a Nursing Officer?
The pay level is the same everywhere, so choose by city, cost of living and where you want to build your career. In NORCET 10, CAPFIMS, AIIMS Madurai and AIIMS Bhopal filled their UR seats first, mainly because they had few seats.
