NORCET 11 AIR 987: Third Attempt, 8000 to 3000 to 987

Quick answer: Bharti Kulchandani secured All India Rank 987 and Category Rank 104 in NORCET 11 Mains 2026, on her third attempt. From Jaipur, she completed nursing at SMS Nursing College. Her rank went 8000 → 3000 → 987 across three attempts, and each jump maps to a specific change in how she prepared.

Three attempts, three levels of preparation

The clearest attempt-by-attempt progression in this set, and the pattern is instructive:

AttemptRankWhat she had
September 2025~8000No course, no test series, nothing
April3000Gold classes, MCQs, test series, Pre-Boards, Nashta
NORCET 11987All of the above, taken seriously and centralised

The first jump, 8000 to 3000, came from simply having structured material.

The second jump, 3000 to 987, came from something subtler. She describes it as taking NPrep completely seriously and centring her study in one place rather than spreading it across sources.

Now I have to do it and show. Whatever happens, I have to get it done.

For repeaters, that second jump is the harder one, because it is not solved by buying anything new.

The three-pass method

This is the most copyable routine in any of these interviews. After completing a paper, she divided checking it into three separate passes:

Pass 1 — only the incorrect ones. She looked exclusively at what she got wrong, noted each one, and flagged whether the underlying topic was weak.

Pass 2 — only the skipped ones. The questions she left, the ones she did not know. A completely different category from wrong answers, needing a different fix.

Pass 3 — the entire paper, from question one. Properly, end to end, with everything now in context.

The interviewer singled it out as an unusually simplified, repeatable method, and she is right. Most candidates do one undifferentiated pass and treat "wrong" and "skipped" as the same signal. They are not: one is a knowledge error, the other is a coverage gap.

Matching the test to the real exam window

A small discipline with a real effect:

From 9 to 12, because that is the Mains slot.

Her tests were always completed in that window. Then — deliberately — half an hour to an hour of rest before analysis, rather than analysing while fatigued.

Volume across the cycle: 12,000+ questions and 144 tests.

The question that came back

A specific, checkable instance rather than a vague claim.

There was a question about sweating position that she had already seen in a Nashta test and got wrong. She corrected it at the time. When it appeared again, she got it right.

Her broader read was that two or three questions had effectively gone straight from NPrep into the paper, and that this had happened in her April attempt as well.

This is the mechanism Anet at AIR 118 describes too — a question got wrong in practice, corrected, then recognised in the hall. The wrong answer in the mock is what makes the right answer in the exam.

What the Mentorship gave her

Her description is short and to the point:

  • One subject completed in four to six hours
  • She calls it like a fast revision, which she rated highly given how little time was left

And on the Gold classes: having already sat the April exam, she knew what level the questions were pitched at, and found the content matched that level. Candidates who have already sat a paper can judge material in a way first-timers cannot.

Her prescribed order, for repeaters

She gives an explicit sequence, and the diagnostic step in the middle is the part people skip:

  1. Take the Gold batch, Edition Six.
  2. Theory first. Study a chapter properly — her example is the cardiovascular system.
  3. Then the Question Bank, immediately. Not at the end. Right after that chapter, to find out which of its topics are strong and which are weak.
  4. Then tests, once the Question Bank has done the diagnosis.

Step 3 is a measuring instrument, not practice. You are using the Question Bank to find out where you are before deciding what to test.

On notes, she kept them specifically for where her mistakes were happening, to read at the last moment.

Her mother, on the library

Her mother appears on camera and supplies the texture: Bharti going to the library in the morning, seven or eight hours there, then more study at home at night — and still helping around the house.

What to take from AIR 987

  1. Three attempts is not failure. 8000 to 3000 to 987 is a trajectory.
  2. Centralise your sources. The second jump came from consolidating, not adding.
  3. Check a paper in three passes: wrong, then skipped, then everything.
  4. Rest before analysing. Fatigued analysis is not analysis.
  5. Use the Question Bank as a diagnostic, immediately after each chapter.

Frequently asked questions

What rank did Bharti Kulchandani get in NORCET 11? All India Rank 987 and Category Rank 104 in NORCET 11 Mains 2026, on her third attempt, improving from roughly 8000 and then 3000.

How should you analyse a NORCET test paper? In three separate passes: first only the questions you got wrong, then only the ones you skipped, then the entire paper from question one. Wrong answers and skipped questions are different problems requiring different fixes.

What time of day should you take NORCET mock tests? She always took hers between 9am and 12pm, matching the actual NORCET Mains exam slot, then rested half an hour to an hour before analysing.

Can you improve from a rank of 8000 in NORCET? Yes. She went from around 8000 with no structured material, to 3000 with a course and test series, to 987 after centralising her study in one place rather than spreading it across sources.

When should you use the Question Bank in NORCET preparation? Immediately after studying each chapter, as a diagnostic to find which topics within it are strong and weak, before moving to full tests.
