NORCET 11 AIR 4: Mehpara Rashid Went From 30% to 92.1% in One Year

GNM, then Post Basic, then the highest NPrep rank in NORCET 11 — with no private institute at any point. The rationales did the teaching.

NORCET 11 AIR 4: Mehpara Rashid Went From 30% to 92.1% in One Year

Quick answer: Mehpara Rashid secured All India Rank 4 in NORCET 11 Mains 2026 — the highest rank among NPrep's published NORCET 11 toppers. From Srinagar, Kashmir, she came through the GNM and Post Basic route rather than a direct degree, joined no private institute at any point, and moved from roughly 30% on her early tests to 92.1% in about one year.

She did not hide the starting number

Most toppers soften the beginning. She states it flatly:

My score on early tests was very low. Around 30%.

Not framed as a clever baseline or a deliberate diagnostic. Just low.

Score
Early tests~30%
Final92.1%

The interviewer's observation is the one worth keeping: the journey she covered in one year is one many candidates do not cover in five.

She is also clear the improvement was gradual, and that it only began once she started studying properly rather than sampling tests to see what they looked like. Taking tests is not the same as preparing.

The GNM and Post Basic route

Worth stating plainly, because candidates on this path often assume it disadvantages them:

  • GNM at Government Medical College, Srinagar
  • Post Basic at Ramzan College of Nursing
  • Passed out February 2025, took a deliberate six-month gap, began studying October 2025
  • Prepared continuously through NORCET 10 and NORCET 11 with no break between them
  • No private institute, at any stage

An AIR 4 came out of that route. The degree path is not the constraint.

Rationales as the actual teacher

This is the centre of her method, and it is unusual. Most toppers treat rationales as a review layer on top of lectures. For her they were the syllabus delivery:

Whatever syllabus I completed, I completed because of the rationales.

She says directly that the help she got there was not available to her on any other platform. Asked for specifics, she named four things rather than giving general praise:

  1. Image explanations
  2. The titbits
  3. The Crux written after each rationale
  4. The highlighting

The habit that made it work

She did not read rationales passively. When she saw a Crux, she copied it into her own notes — on the judgement that a question would come from it.

That single behaviour converts reading into revisable material. It is the difference between having seen something and owning it.

Suman Sahu at AIR 248 built the same habit around the highlighted points in test rationales.

What each test type was actually for

She is more precise than most about which product solved which problem — useful if you are deciding where your limited time goes.

ProductWhat she used it for
Mini TestAnswering quickly, and short tricks
PYQRecall, specifically of older topics
Nashta & Pre-BoardCompleting her notes; she credits these with a large role in both stages
Daily TestThe confidence of watching scores climb day by day, and consistency
Subject TestDiagnosis — "the app was already telling me which subject I was weak in"
Question BankComparatively few, by choice

That last row is the honest part. She attempted comparatively few Question Bank questions, prioritising Nashta instead — while still rating the content highly. Not every topper uses every product, and she does not pretend otherwise.

Teaching that transferred

She named Himmat Sir and Pooja Ma'am, having watched a large number of their videos.

Her reason for Himmat Sir is about retention rather than entertainment:

The way he explains settles in the mind, and the way he works through questions stayed with me.

A concrete carryover: she recalled pneumonia questions, specifically around fast breathing, appearing in the exam close to the form she had practised.

Her advice, split by where you are

For juniors: start with NPrep, on the grounds that it is where her own basics became clear — and that she had not even considered NORCET before finding it.

For pass-outs with six months: she recommends the Edition Six Gold Batch specifically, because everything including the test series sits inside it. Her stated benefit is that it removes the need to write anything, freeing you to focus only on revision.

For everyone:

Nothing comes outside what is in the notes. So the task is staying consistent with revision rather than hunting for more sources.

That is the same conclusion Neha at AIR 408 reaches about limiting resources, arrived at from the opposite direction.

What to take from AIR 4

  1. 30% is a starting point. It became 92.1% in a year.
  2. Rationales can be the primary teacher, not just a review layer.
  3. Copy the Crux into your own notes. Reading is not owning.
  4. Know what each test type is for. They solve different problems.
  5. Stop hunting for sources. Consistency with one set beats collecting many.

Frequently asked questions

What rank did Mehpara Rashid get in NORCET 11? All India Rank 4 in NORCET 11 Mains 2026, the highest among NPrep's published NORCET 11 toppers.

Can you crack NORCET through the GNM and Post Basic route? Yes. She completed GNM at Government Medical College Srinagar and Post Basic at Ramzan College of Nursing, joined no private institute, and secured AIR 4.

How much can your score improve in a year of NORCET preparation? Hers went from around 30% on early tests to 92.1%, improving gradually once she began studying properly rather than only sampling tests.

What is the Crux in NPrep rationales and how should you use it? The Crux is the summary written after each rationale. She copied every Crux into her own notes on the judgement that a question would come from it, turning reading into revisable material.

Which NPrep test should you use for what? She used Mini Tests for speed and short tricks, PYQs for recall of older topics, Nashta and Pre-Boards to complete her notes, Daily Tests for consistency and confidence, and Subject Tests as a diagnostic for weak subjects.
