Haryana CHO Eligibility 2026: Qualification, Age Limit, Registration Rules, Bridge Course & Key Conditions
Haryana’s Community Health Officer (CHO) recruitment under the National Health Mission (NHM) is designed to strengthen Health & Wellness Centres (HWCs) across the state. While Haryana doesn’t conduct CHO recruitment as frequently as some larger states, when it does, the eligibility rules are precise and strictly enforced.
Many candidates assume Haryana follows the same rules as UP or Rajasthan - but that is not true.
This guide explains Haryana’s CHO eligibility in detail: who can apply, what qualifications are accepted, how community health training fits in, what registration is required, and why many applicants get rejected.
1. Educational Qualification - Who Can Apply
Haryana generally follows a multi-stream eligibility model, depending on the recruitment cycle.
Commonly Accepted Qualifications (Cycle-Dependent)
✔ B.Sc Nursing ✔ Post Basic B.Sc Nursing ✔ GNM (in some cycles, with conditions) ✔ BAMS (Ayurveda) - in some cycles
However, nursing candidates are usually the primary target group.
If AYUSH candidates are allowed, it is always explicitly stated in the notification. It should never be assumed.
2. Community Health / Bridge Course Requirement
This is where Haryana differs from many states.
Haryana often treats CHO as a trained public health cadre, not just a nursing job. Because of this:
• A bridge course • Or CHO/MLHP-specific training • Or community health certification
…may be required either:
- Before appointment
- After selection (mandatory training)
- As a condition of continued service
What This Means for You
If your degree already includes community health (as B.Sc Nursing usually does), you are usually safe.
If you are GNM or AYUSH, you may need:
• A specific CHO training program • Or a state-sponsored bridge course
This is often mentioned in the training or appointment section of the notification rather than eligibility - but it is legally binding.
3. Professional Registration Rules
Haryana is strict about professional registration.
To be eligible, you must have:
✔ Valid registration with Haryana Nursing Council OR ✔ Registration with another State Nursing Council + proof of migration to Haryana Council (if permitted)
If you are applying through an AYUSH route:
✔ Registration with the appropriate AYUSH council recognized by Haryana
In many Haryana recruitments, local council registration is required before joining, not just before applying.
4. Age Limit & Relaxations
Haryana CHO age limits typically follow this structure:
Minimum: 18-21 years Maximum: 40 years
However, some cycles have used a lower upper cap (like 37).
Relaxations usually apply for:
• SC • ST • OBC • PwBD • Ex-servicemen
Exact numbers always depend on the notification.
5. Domicile & Local Preference
Haryana may give preference to local candidates, though this is not always written as a strict eligibility condition.
This may show up as:
• Preference in tie-breaking • Preference in posting • Reservation rules
Out-of-state candidates should carefully read this section.
6. Language Expectations
Haryana does not usually impose a formal language paper requirement like some states.
However:
• Knowledge of Hindi / local dialects • Ability to communicate in rural settings
…is often expected.
In rare cases, educational certificates may be checked for Hindi as a subject.
7. Experience Requirement
Experience is usually not mandatory.
But:
• Community health exposure • Rural postings • NGO / public health experience
…can improve your profile.
For GNM candidates, experience may be particularly important.
8. Who Is Commonly Declared Ineligible
Applicants in Haryana CHO recruitments are often rejected due to:
❌ Missing or invalid council registration ❌ GNM without required bridge/public health training ❌ Applying through AYUSH route when not allowed ❌ Age miscalculation ❌ Incorrect category certificate ❌ Missing mandatory documents
9. Haryana CHO Eligibility - Quick Summary
