Are you eligible for NORCET? A simple checklist for age, education & experience
Are You Eligible for NORCET? A Simple Checklist for Age, Education & Experience The dream of wearing the white coat of an AIIMS Nursing Officer is powerful, but before you dive into months of preparation, there's one critical question you must answer: Are you eligible for NORCET? The AIIMS eligibility criteria are very specific, and misunderstanding even a single point can lead to your application being rejected. Don't let a small mistake stop you before you even start! All criteria mentioned in this blog are based on the official notification, which you can always verify on the AIIMS Exams website. This simple, factual checklist will break down the official NORCET 2025 eligibility criteria for age, education, and experience, so you can confirm your eligibility with confidence and focus on your preparation. If you're new to the exam, first read our complete guide on What is the NORCET Exam? (add blog link)
Educational Qualification: B.Sc. vs. GNM This is where most aspirants have questions. The requirements are different for B.Sc. and GNM candidates. For B.Sc. Nursing Candidates: You are eligible if you have: B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing / B.Sc. Nursing from an Indian Nursing Council (INC) or state nursing council recognized Institute or University. OR B.Sc. (Post-Certificate) / Post-Basic B.Sc. Nursing from an INC/state-recognized institute. You must be registered as a Nurse & Midwife with the State / Indian Nursing Council. Crucially, B.Sc. candidates DO NOT need any prior experience. For GNM (General Nursing Midwifery) Candidates: You are eligible if you have: Diploma in General Nursing Midwifery from an INC/state-recognized Institute or Board. You must be registered as a Nurse & Midwife with the State / Indian Nursing Council. Mandatory Experience: A minimum of two years' experience in a hospital with at least 50 beds. This experience must be acquired after you have obtained your GNM diploma and nursing registration. [COMMON PITFALLS] "The '50-bedded hospital' rule is strict. They will ask for proof. Experience from a small clinic or a hospital with fewer than 50 beds will lead to disqualification during document verification. Your experience certificate must clearly state the hospital's bed capacity." "For GNM candidates, the 2-year experience is calculated after your registration date. Any experience you gained during an internship or before your final registration is not counted. This is where many applicants make a mistake." "Ensure your State/INC registration is valid and not expired. A lapsed registration can be grounds for rejection."
NORCET Age Limit and Relaxations The age criteria are straightforward but have important relaxation rules. General Age Limit: 18 to 30 Years (Less than 30 Years) Age Relaxation for Reserved Categories: The upper age limit is relaxed for candidates from reserved categories as per Government of India rules. Category Age Relaxation SC / ST 5 Years OBC 3 Years Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) 10 Years Central Govt. Civilian Employees Up to 40 years (for Gen/EWS) Up to 43 years (for OBC) Up to 45 years (for SC/ST)
[INSIDER TIP] "For OBC candidates, make sure you have a Central List OBC-NCL certificate, not a state-level one. The certificate must also be recent, typically issued within the last financial year as specified in the official notification. This is a very common reason for rejection." You're Eligible! What's Your Next Step? If you've ticked all the boxes in this checklist, congratulations! You have cleared the first hurdle.
