Secrets to Scoring High in Nursing Entrance Exams (From Real Students)
Forget textbooks for a moment. These are the real, raw, and inspiring stories of students who turned immense challenges into top ranks.
We all read the study tips and the preparation strategies. But sometimes, the most powerful lessons don't come from a book—they come from the real-life stories of those who have walked the path and emerged victorious.
What goes on behind the scenes of a top rank? What personal battles are fought? We talked to our NPrep toppers to uncover the human side of their success. These aren't just study hacks; these are stories of resilience, sacrifice, and unbreakable will.
🏆 The Sacrifice: From a Kabaddi Champion to a Nursing Officer
For Ramesh (AIR 36, NORCET), the journey to becoming a Nursing Officer at AIIMS Rishikesh began with a heartbreaking sacrifice.
A national-level Kabaddi player, his dream was to wear the Indian jersey. But his family, farmers by profession, had a different dream for him: a stable government job.
He had to make a choice.
"Mujhe ek faisla lena tha. Maine apne Kabaddi team mein khelne ka sapna chhod diya aur poora time padhai ko diya." (Translation: "I had to make a decision. I left my dream of playing in the Kabaddi team and gave all my time to studies.")
Ramesh’s story teaches us that success often demands immense sacrifice. His victory wasn't just a rank; it was the fulfillment of a promise to his parents. The most emotional moment for him was telling his father he would no longer have to toil in the fields.
💡 Ramesh’s Secret: Your "why" can be your greatest superpower. His motivation to lift his family out of hardship was stronger than any challenge he faced.
💪 The Comeback: From Failure to a String of Victories
Anshu Kumar (AIR 55, DSSSB) is a story of pure grit.
Born with a condition that affected his legs, he was told by doctors he would never walk. He not only defied that prediction but also cleared 8-9 competitive exams after facing a major setback.
After years of self-study and running a clinic to support himself, he failed the NORCET exam in 2023. This could have been the end, but for Anshu, it was a turning point. He realized his mistake.
"Meri sabse badi galti thi ki main shuru mein aate hi YouTube par chala gaya, jabki pehle theory strong karni chahiye thi. Is wajah se bohot negative marks aaye." (Translation: "My biggest mistake was that I immediately went to YouTube, whereas I should have strengthened my theory first. This led to a lot of negative marks.")
After this failure, he adopted a structured approach with NPrep's Rapid Revision course. He mastered his theory, practiced from a question bank, and analyzed every single mistake.
✅ The result? He cleared Rajasthan CHO and then aced the DSSSB exam with AIR 55.
💡 Anshu’s Secret: Failure is not the end; it's feedback. Use it to find your flaws, fix them, and come back stronger.
📖 The Discipline: Turning Mistakes into Magic
For Ashok (AIR 162, GMCH), the journey was a series of rejections.
He failed NORCET 7, CRE, and NORCET 8. It would have been easy to lose hope. But Ashok’s superpower was his incredible discipline and a unique method for learning from failure.
When he took his first test, he got 40 questions wrong. Instead of getting discouraged, he created what he calls a "magic notebook."
"Meri ek 'magic notebook' thi, jismein main apni saari galtiyan likhta tha." (Translation: "I had a 'magic notebook' where I used to write down all my mistakes.")
He documented every single error, analyzed the rationale hours after the test, and ensured he never repeated the same mistake. Slowly, his wrong answers dropped from 40 to just 8-10 per test.
This meticulous process of self-correction led him to finally crack the GMCH exam.
💡 Ashok’s Secret: Don't just practice; analyze. Your mistakes are a roadmap to your success if you have the discipline to follow it.

🧠 Grit Over Genius
"What connects all these toppers—Ramesh, Anshu, and Ashok—is a trait we call 'Grit Over Genius.' We've seen academically average students outperform brilliant ones simply because they were more resilient. They understood that the exam is not just a test of knowledge, but a test of character. When they faced a setback, they didn't question their ability; they questioned their strategy. This mindset shift is the invisible curriculum that we try to instill through our mentorship. It's the real secret sauce behind these success stories." — Faculty, NPrep
