What type of injury is a contusion?

Explanation

A contusion, or bruise, is fundamentally a type of soft tissue injury.
It is caused by blunt force trauma that ruptures capillaries and small blood vessels beneath the skin, without breaking the skin surface.
This leads to bleeding into the interstitial tissues (hematoma), resulting in the characteristic pain, swelling, and discoloration (ecchymosis).
The injury primarily affects the skin, subcutaneous fat, and muscle, which are all classified as soft tissues.
