What is NORCET?

The Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET) is conducted by AIIMS, New Delhi for the recruitment of Nursing Officers (Group B) across all AIIMS and associated government medical institutions in India. The upcoming cycle, NORCET-10 (2026), offers positions at Pay Level 7 = Basic Pay ₹44,900 under the 7th CPC.

Educational Qualification

Option 1 - B.Sc. Nursing Route

  • Qualification: B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing / B.Sc. Nursing OR B.Sc. (Post-Certificate) / Post-Basic B.Sc. Nursing from an INC / State Nursing Council recognized institute or university
  • Registration: Must be registered as Nurse & Midwife with State / Indian Nursing Council
  • Experience: Not required

Option 2 - GNM Route

  • Qualification: Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) from an INC / State Nursing Council recognized institute or board
  • Registration: Must be registered as Nurse & Midwife with State / Indian Nursing Council
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience in a 50-bedded hospital after obtaining the qualification

1. What is the minimum qualification required to apply for NORCET 2026? Candidates must have either a B.Sc. Nursing / Post-Basic B.Sc. Nursing degree or a Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) from an institute recognized by the Indian Nursing Council or State Nursing Council.


2. Is work experience mandatory for NORCET 2026? Experience is mandatory only for GNM candidates - they must have 2 years of experience in a 50-bedded hospital after obtaining registration.


3. What is the age limit for NORCET 2026? Candidates should be between 18 and 30 years as of the last application date. Relaxation applies for OBC, SC/ST, PWBD, and Ex-Servicemen as per Government norms.


4. Can final-year B.Sc. Nursing students apply for NORCET? ❌ No. Only candidates who have completed the course and obtained registration from the State or Indian Nursing Council are eligible.


5. Is registration with the Indian Nursing Council mandatory for NORCET? ✅ Yes, every applicant must be registered as Nurse & Midwife with either the State Nursing Council or Indian Nursing Council before applying.
